Day 2 - More Demo

First I will start off with a picture that I should have taken yesterday... The new furnace.

This furnace is much smaller than the old one (yes that is a dirt floor); The 2nd picture is an air exchange (at least that is what I think it is)

I went back out early in the morning to make sure that I could grab the parking spots again.  At that time I took a couple of pictures.

The dumpster on the street.

Here is the house in the morning before the project started:

The old furnace:  It's the big square thing under the pile.

The following photos were taken around noon.  The first section of the wall was taken down then.

These were taken a little while later in the day:

First photo shows the wall gone on one end of the porch (not a very good photo - sorry
The next two photos show the underside of the porch area.

The next photos are from the end of the day.

The next couple of photos show the "security" The door that went from the kitchen to the back porch did not have a lock on it.  So the gate from the old fence has been added.  Once the porch is down they will actually put up a piece of plywood so if someone opens the door from inside, they fall off the house.

Tomorrow another day...More standing out in the morning to grab parking spots as the neighbors leave for the day.

Day 1- New Furnace and Demo

Yes, we are starting another remodel.  This will be the last.

The house was built in 1897.  Sometime between 1910 and 1920's the back porch was added on.  What we don't know is when it was actually enclosed.

For the last 30 years it has been our laundry room, and storage area (aka: junk room)  The porch is rotting and needs to go.  It really is a safety issue.   The "other" space will be a sewing room for my mum.  There will be another 5 ft added to the space that is now the back porch.

Along with the back porch being taken off we are also replacing the furnace.  The furnace was put in around 1989 -  1990ish.  When the HVAC guy was here to look at it he said it was time for it to go (and we knew this, we have been babying that thing for the last few years) it is now a fire hazard.

The last major part of the remodel is to add off street parking.  The house is about a block from a Catholic High school.  The parking just sucks.  It is even worse this year because the school is doing a remodel, so not only do you have students parking up and down our block, but we also now have some of the teachers parking on the block.

I forgot to get any pictures before the start they started the demo today.  The photos are after they started the demo.  Here you go:

First is a picture of the back porch from the outside

Another photo from outside.  Demo has started. (the fence that you see in this picture is now down)

From Inside: this is the side that held the Washer and Dryer:

The other side of the porch. The wall at the far end used to be windows, but when we did the quick fix last October, we took the windows out.  (Like how I say we, as If I had anything to do with the fixes on the house)

The washer and dryer have been tucked away for the remodel.  Because we don't have a garage, we didn't really have any place to store them.  (they will not fit through the basement doors)

Later in the day:

View of the old fence that was taken out today.  There used to have a fence up between the side yard, and the back yard.  You can also see were the off street parking is going to be added.

Back porch with all of the windows out.  At this point a lot of the ceiling has also been taken down

I forgot to get a picture of the new furnace, will include that with tomorrows update.
